We have adopted this Viking or Norseman as our logo. “Borg” is of Scandinavian origin meaning “fort” and refers to a dry stone fort at Castle Haven near Kirkandrews. The Vikings were believed to have occupied the area during the 1st & 2nd centuries. The ruins of this fort are still visible to date.
We even have a Knights Templars connection! Borgue, Senwick and Kirkandrews were united about the year 1670. Borgue, the general name of the united parishes, could also derived from the Gaelic word burg, "a little hill" which describes the site of the church, in the middle of the parish.
The hotel itself was built around 1880 and constructed from whinstone. Shirley & Vince escaped “The Smoke” or London and took over the hotel in late 2006.
In early 2007 "Viking", a springador, took up residence as the pub dog. In 2008 a cockeral and several hens were added to provide "free range" eggs for breakfasts.
